CompTIA PenTest+ and CompTIA CASP+ Exam Retirements
CompTIA announced the retirement of two popular certifications, CompTIA CASP++ and CompTIA penTest++, on February 10, 2022. It stated that the CompTIA CASP+ exam version (CAS-003) will be ending on April 5th 2022. Candidates who are interested in the certification will not be able to access it.
CompTIA PenTest+ exam version (PT0-001), will also be ending on April 26th 2022. Candidates will no longer be able to access it after that date. CompTIA will replace these two exam versions with updated versions. The changes and upgradations will be discussed in the second part of this post.
Candidates who have already enrolled in the CompTIA Pentest+ and CompTIA CASP+ exams can still take these exams. CompTIA CASP+ exam retire doesn’t affect its value, nor does the CompTIA Pentest+ retire.
CompTIA PenTest+ Exam History and CompTIA CASP+ Exam History
The CompTIA CASP+ exam version is CAS-003 while Pentest+ version is PT0-001. CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) launched these versions. It is the governing body of all CompTIA certifications and exams. These exam versions were released in 2018.
We will briefly discuss CompTIA’s history and standards. CompTIA was previously known as the Association of Better Computer Dealers. The Computing Technology Industry Association was adopted as the organization’s name in 1992.
CompTIA regularly updates exam domains, syllabuses and courseware in response to market trends, industry requirements, and other factors. This is the main reason why CompTIA exams have been retired or extinguished. This is done to ensure that CompTIA certification candidates have the skills and knowledge they are in high demand. CompTIA updates its certification content and makes changes to the exam domain every three years. The majority of CompTIA exam versions are retired after three years.
About CompTIA Exam Launches & Retirements
CompTIA PenTest+ (PT0-001), was launched July 31, 2018, and CompTIA CASP+(CAS-003) was launched April 2, 2018.

What are the changes to CompTIA PenTest+ and CompTIA CASP+ Exams?
CompTIA CASP+ exam (CAS-004) and CompTIA penTest+ exam (PT0-002) are the new exam versions. These exam codes are available to candidates who wish to take the CompTIA PenTest+ and CompTIA CASP exams. These exam versions are now available for applicants to schedule.
What should I do if I already have CompTIA CASP+ or CompTIA Pentest+ exam vouchers?
Candidates who have already purchased exam vouchers for older exam versions, i.e. CompTIA CASP+ CAS-003 and CompTIA PenTest+ PT0-001, do not need to cancel or return the exam vouchers. They can still be used to purchase exam vouchers for the latest exam versions, i.e. CompTIA CASP+ CAS-004 and CompTIA PenTest+ PT0-002.
When will CompTIA CASP+ or CompTIA Pentest+ Exams retire?
CompTIA certification exams typically retire three years after their launch. We are now back to the announcement of CASP+ exam version and PenTest+ PT0-001 are retiring this year. They will be replaced by CASP+ CAS-004 and PenTest+ PT0-002.
